New ways for our Grand Prix stars: Lewis Hamilton has taken up golf as a hobby.

Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton was the star attraction at the London Golf Club today (Wednesday) on the eve of the European Open.

Hamilton, who finished 12th in the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, teed off in the pro-am, a traditional curtain raiser to the tournament.

The 24-year-old, who was discovered at Buckmore Park near Chatham, will be familiar with the London Club’s setting just a stone’s throw from Brands Hatch.

The European Open gets underway for real on the Heritage Course on Thursday, with a world class field including Sergio Garcia and John Daly competing for the £1.8 million prize fund.

An estimated 100,000 people are set to watch the event, which is returning to the club for the second successive year.

Lewis practiced for the event already on Monday when he stayed in Monte-Carlo for a golf match organized by two times F1 World Champion, Mika Häkkinen.

Kimi Räikkönen on the other hand tries something else: rallying again.

Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen is set to contest yet another professional rally, his third of the year.

The 2007 F1 World Champion entered two rounds of the Finnish Rally Championship in the winter, driving a Tommi Makinen-prepared Fiat Abarth Grande Punto.

The Finnish media now reports that Raikkonen, currently 13th in the 2009 drivers’ championship, will race the same car in the Rally della Marca on the weekend between the forthcoming Monaco and Turkish Grand Prix.

Taking place in northern Italy’s Treviso region, it will be Raikkonen’s first asphalt rally.

Fresh news however tell us that Kimi’s rally has been cut very short. He retired after the third stage.

Soon to be engaged?

Soon to be engaged?

Nicole Scherzinger’s summer engagement

Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger has hinted her Formula One racing driver lover Lewis Hamilton will propose to her this July.

Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton are planning to get engaged this summer.

The Pussycat Dolls singer is ready to settle down with the Formula One racing driver and wants her bandmates to be involved in the wedding.

She said: “Would I get married? For sure and, yeah, the Dolls can be the bridesmaids. But I have to get engaged first. Late July is looking good.

“Marriage is a seal of love. On my solo album I have sung about how much I love that and what the whole process would mean to me. Who needs a reason to seal their love?”

Nicole, who has been dating Lewis since 2007, also revealed she would love to record a song with her 24-year-old lover.

However, the 30-year-old brunette beauty admits she would be too jealous for Lewis to appear in a music promo with the rest of the sexy Pussycat Doll stars.

She laughed to Britain’s Hello! magazine: “He can sing quite well. He knows a lot of my songs from the group and, in a worrying way, quite a few of the routines.

“I would love him to appear in one of our videos, but I am not sure how I would feel about the other Dolls all over him. I think he would quite like it!”

Michael Schumacher got back on his motorbike yesterday at a test at the Nürburgring. He was accompanied by his wife Corinna and his friend Heribert Füngeling.

Michael said on his website that they had a great day, he was surprised how well that went after he suffered a big crash with injuries back in February. His lap times were good too. Despite of that he decided not to take part in the next IDM race on the 31st of May, because he doesn’t feel  100% fit yet for a race.

Jensons other favourite sport

Jenson's other favourite sport

Jenson Button plans to take part in this year’s London Triathlon on the 1st of August. The Briton took up triathlon as a part of his training routine a couple years ago and since then he has taken part in several events. This year he is a serious contender for the Formula One title, so he will neglect triathlon events a bit, but he decided to take part in the above mentioned event to help the Make a Wish Foundation of which he is a patron.

Jenson told to the website that was established to support the cause:

“As you probably know I’ve been taking part in triathlons over the past couple of years as a way of keeping fit for my racing. As we are so busy this year, I won’t be able to do as many triathlons as I would like but thought that I would give the London Triathlon a go. It’s the biggest triathlon in the world so I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a charity that is very close to my heart.

I’m a Patron of the Make A Wish Foundation and have had the pleasure of meeting lots of kids who are supported by the charity at our tests and races. Make A Wish grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses and it is a real privilege to be involved with them. The kids are so inspirational and hopefully we can raise enough money to fulfil as many of their dreams as possible.

The London Triathlon takes place on Saturday 1 August with almost 11,000 competitors! The race covers a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and a 10km run. I’m aiming to finish in the top 10% so no pressure!

Somehow I have even persuaded my two race engineers Shov and Bono to take part! They will be competing in the half distance event.
So please dig into your pockets and sponsor me. Your money will be going to a very worthy cause and helping to make dreams come true for some very poorly children.

Thanks very much for any support that you can give…”
