Kimi Räikkönen has lost his grandmother last week, according to reports in Finnish papers. Sirkka Pietilä was the mother of Kimi’s mother and she died at the age of 83. In the past she was sometimes seen in the paddock supporting Kimi in full Ferrari outfit.
Kimi was quoted saying that he hopes the media will let the family grieve in peace and their privacy will be respected.

In a sad coincidence Fernando Alonso’s 78-year-old grandmother, Maria Luisa Martinez Lopez died recently too: before the European Grand Prix in Valencia. She died after a long illness.

There's reason to champagne
According to the Forbes magazine Kimi Räikkönen is the second richest sportsman int he World now. The Ferrari driver has an annual income of 32 million euro from Ferrari plus sponsors. He shares that second place with basketball stars Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. But they are nowhere near to the guy who is still the top earner: Tiger Woods’ annual income is 78 million euro.
Looking at Kimi’s performance in F1 since 2007 I have to say his managers must be really clever guys: it must be an art to get so much money for so little performance (sorry, Kimi fans).

New ways for our Grand Prix stars: Lewis Hamilton has taken up golf as a hobby.
Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton was the star attraction at the London Golf Club today (Wednesday) on the eve of the European Open.
Hamilton, who finished 12th in the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, teed off in the pro-am, a traditional curtain raiser to the tournament.
The 24-year-old, who was discovered at Buckmore Park near Chatham, will be familiar with the London Club’s setting just a stone’s throw from Brands Hatch.
The European Open gets underway for real on the Heritage Course on Thursday, with a world class field including Sergio Garcia and John Daly competing for the £1.8 million prize fund.
An estimated 100,000 people are set to watch the event, which is returning to the club for the second successive year.
Lewis practiced for the event already on Monday when he stayed in Monte-Carlo for a golf match organized by two times F1 World Champion, Mika Häkkinen.

Kimi Räikkönen on the other hand tries something else: rallying again.
Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen is set to contest yet another professional rally, his third of the year.
The 2007 F1 World Champion entered two rounds of the Finnish Rally Championship in the winter, driving a Tommi Makinen-prepared Fiat Abarth Grande Punto.
The Finnish media now reports that Raikkonen, currently 13th in the 2009 drivers’ championship, will race the same car in the Rally della Marca on the weekend between the forthcoming Monaco and Turkish Grand Prix.
Taking place in northern Italy’s Treviso region, it will be Raikkonen’s first asphalt rally.
Fresh news however tell us that Kimi’s rally has been cut very short. He retired after the third stage.

Who does the Iceman smile at?
Kimi Räikkönen married Jenni Dahlman on the 31st of July, 2004. Jenni is two years younger than Kimi. She was a photomodell and in 2000 she was Miss Skandinavia. She and Kimi also met at a beauty contest where Jenni was a competitor and Kimi was invited as a member of the jury. It was love at first sight.
It’s well known that Kimi doesn’t like the media hype, doesn’t like to be at the centre of attention. Well, Jenni is similar. You rarely can see her at races in the paddock (according to some fans too rarely and she should support Kimi more). However she was there at the last test of Ferrari this winter about two weeks ago.
Kimi’s private life is as mysterious as Kimi himself. I, for one, don’t know what to believe. Sometimes there are the wildest of rumours about them, but none of these stories have ever been proven. It’s often reported that their marriage is in a crisis but then they appear together in public and they look like a totally normal and happy couple.
However it’s true that there have already been pretty wild pictures about Kimi. In 2006 the tabloids published pics in which he was totally drunk and dancing erotic looking dances with girls (who were not Jenni) in a bar, in another pic he was holding girl (who wasn’t Jenni either) at Ferrari’s pre-season ski-event in 2008. There were also claims from various girls that they had relationships with Kimi, however Kimi always sued those who claimed this.
All I can say: let’s hope they are really faithful to each other and happy.
Jenni doesn’t really like F1. On the rare occasion she attends a race she looks more bored than interested. Her hobby is show jumping and she is pretty good at it. But Kimi is allergic to horses, so it must be a bit difficult for them: Kimi doesn’t like to attend Jenni’s competitions and Jenni doesn’t like to go to F1 races.
Kimi said he doesn’t want kids as long as he is in F1, so if everything goes as planned Jenni and Kimi won’t be parents until at least 2011.
