Nico Rosberg is heading to Ibiza, while championship leader Jenson Button will spend some of F1’s rare three-week break before the next race holidaying with his girlfriend in Tokyo.
Australia’s Mark Webber, however, is taking the opportunity to have some surgery, following his winter cycling accident.
“I’m having the two locking screws at the bottom of my right shin taken out,” the Red Bull driver said after finishing second in Sunday’s British Grand Prix.
Webber, 32, said the main titanium rod is staying put.
“The bone has recovered sufficiently for the screws to be removed, which is great news.
It’s not a big operation, just a local anaesthetic,” he explained.
Afterwards, however, he has scheduled some rest and relaxation prior to the German Grand Prix in mid July, starting with taking in the British Speedway action in Cardiff next Saturday.
The next day, he will be trackside at Donington Park for the British round of World Superbikes.
“I’ve ridden bikes for longer than I’ve raced cars, so I’m really looking forward to it,” said Webber

Motorsport is a dynastic sport, at least racing drivers are often followed by their children into the sport. I have made a research on sons and daughters of famous or less famous F1 drivers and where are they with their career progress.
“Sons of” currently in F1:
Nelson Piquet Sr.: 3 times Formula One World Champion.
Nelson Piquet Jr.: Formula One driver. He made his debut in 2008. His best result is a 2nd place in Hockenheim 2008. Otherwise he failed to impress.
Keke Rosberg: The 1982 Formula One World Champion.
Nico Rosberg: He made his debut in 2006. His best result is a 2nd in Singapore 2008. Williams often praise him and he looks like a bigger talent than Piquet, however his critics note that while he may look good against a teammate like Kazuki Nakajima, he was often outraced and outscored by Mark Webber when they were teammates. The jury is still out on him, I guess. Also his daddy is a F1 champion but is often considered to be one of the „lucky” WDCs, so Nico possibly can have the same talent.
Satoru Nakajima: An F1 driver between 1987 and 1991. His best results are two 4th places (one in his debut season with Lotus).
Kazuki Nakajima: Made his F1 debut in 2007. His best result up to date is a 6th in Australia 2008.

A poker fever sweeps through the World these days and it doesn’t spare Formula One either. The card game is very popular among drivers. First Giancarlo Fisichella and Rubens Barrichello played it in the paddock, then a lot of other drivers joined. Fernando Alonso and Robert Kubica are known as big fans of the game, for example. Last year in Hockenheim Fernando, Rubens, Adrian Sutil and Michael Schumacher, who was there as Ferrari’s advisor, were seen playing it together in Force India’s motorhome.
Then even a poker tournament, called Pit Stop Poker Club, was established for F1 drivers in the Casino of San Vincent. Robert Kubica, Nick Heidfeld, Giancarlo Fisichella and Nico Rosberg participated in the 2008 championship, or whatever it is called in poker. The 2008 poker king of the paddock, so the winner, was Nico.
The Pit Stop Poker Club was such a success that it took place this year as well. Drivers Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosberg, Giancarlo Fisichella, Jarno Trulli, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Eddie Irvine gathered in San Vincent again last night at 8 pm to play. The were joined by two fans who won the opportunity to play with the F1 stars at a competition.
Michael arrived in a helicopter wearing a white hat, a white shirt, black sunglasses and an iPod. He almost looked like a professional poker player, however it seems he is not as strong in cards as in cars, because he didn’t manage to make it to the final.
Nico took his girlfriend, Vivian Sibold with him. She doesn’t go to F1 races too often, but at least she could support her boyfriend here.
It were Nico, Giancarlo and Tonio who made it to the final. The whole party will be broadcast by SkySport 2 on the 22-24. May.

Luna and Giancarlo Fisichella: Giancarlo met Luna when he was a guest of an Italian TV show and she was sitting in the audience. They are not married but apparently engaged (for eternity 😛 ) . They have two children: Carlotta (born: 27th April, 1999) and Christopher (b. 1st February, 2003).
Patricia Papen and Nick Heidfeld: They already have two children together but they are not married. Their daughter Juni was born on the 3rd of July, 2005 and their son, the funny named Joda was born on the 21st of July, 2007. Patricia is, like Corinna Schumacher and Jenni Räikkönen, is an enthusiastic horseback rider.
Vivian Sibold and Nico Rosberg: They know each other since their childhood, but they only started to go out together at an Ibiza holiday in 2003. It’s their moms who were first friends, working together in the fashion business. Vivian is 24 and she comes from Hamburg. She lives in a Milan apartment with two friends, while Nico lives in Monaco. She is an interior decorator, she says she is more the creative side in their relationship, while Nico is more the “mathematical type”. Nico (or more his father, Keke?) doesn’t like it if Vivan goes to the races, but she always watches the races on TV.
Edyta Witasa and Robert Kubica: Robert doesn’t like talk about his private life. He also doesn’t like the hype and glamour aspect of F1 and his girlfriend is just like him: they both like to keep it low profile. Edyta and Robert met in 2004 when Robert broke his hand and a Polish rally driver, Łukasz Witas visited him in the hospital. Łukasz also took his sister with him. The sister was Edyta. Robert and she fell in love with each other and since then they are together. I have never seen Edyta at a F1 race.
