Mark Webber

Nico Rosberg is heading to Ibiza, while championship leader Jenson Button will spend some of F1’s rare three-week break before the next race holidaying with his girlfriend in Tokyo.

Australia’s Mark Webber, however, is taking the opportunity to have some surgery, following his winter cycling accident.

“I’m having the two locking screws at the bottom of my right shin taken out,” the Red Bull driver said after finishing second in Sunday’s British Grand Prix.

Webber, 32, said the main titanium rod is staying put.

“The bone has recovered sufficiently for the screws to be removed, which is great news.

It’s not a big operation, just a local anaesthetic,” he explained.

Afterwards, however, he has scheduled some rest and relaxation prior to the German Grand Prix in mid July, starting with taking in the British Speedway action in Cardiff next Saturday.

The next day, he will be trackside at Donington Park for the British round of World Superbikes.

“I’ve ridden bikes for longer than I’ve raced cars, so I’m really looking forward to it,” said Webber

Jessica Michibata planning ahead 21/06/09 12:01

Jenson Button would celebrate winning the world championship by proposing marriage, his girlfriend has revealed.

Japanese model Jessica Michibata, 24, has accompanied the Brawn driver to most of the races in 2009.

She told the British tabloid The People: “If Jenson wins the title in November we will celebrate a lot and it will be by him getting down on one knee.”

Currently, Jessica is based in Tokyo while Briton Button, 29, lives in Monaco.

“He flies me first class to meet him whenever we can grab time together,” she admitted.

Jensons other favourite sport

Jenson's other favourite sport

Jenson Button plans to take part in this year’s London Triathlon on the 1st of August. The Briton took up triathlon as a part of his training routine a couple years ago and since then he has taken part in several events. This year he is a serious contender for the Formula One title, so he will neglect triathlon events a bit, but he decided to take part in the above mentioned event to help the Make a Wish Foundation of which he is a patron.

Jenson told to the website that was established to support the cause:

“As you probably know I’ve been taking part in triathlons over the past couple of years as a way of keeping fit for my racing. As we are so busy this year, I won’t be able to do as many triathlons as I would like but thought that I would give the London Triathlon a go. It’s the biggest triathlon in the world so I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a charity that is very close to my heart.

I’m a Patron of the Make A Wish Foundation and have had the pleasure of meeting lots of kids who are supported by the charity at our tests and races. Make A Wish grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses and it is a real privilege to be involved with them. The kids are so inspirational and hopefully we can raise enough money to fulfil as many of their dreams as possible.

The London Triathlon takes place on Saturday 1 August with almost 11,000 competitors! The race covers a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and a 10km run. I’m aiming to finish in the top 10% so no pressure!

Somehow I have even persuaded my two race engineers Shov and Bono to take part! They will be competing in the half distance event.
So please dig into your pockets and sponsor me. Your money will be going to a very worthy cause and helping to make dreams come true for some very poorly children.

Thanks very much for any support that you can give…”
