Fathers and sons (daughters, grandkids, nephews) – Part 1.

Motorsport is a dynastic sport, at least racing drivers are often followed by their children into the sport. I have made a research on sons and daughters of famous or less famous F1 drivers and where are they with their career progress.

“Sons of” currently in F1:

Nelson Piquet Sr.: 3 times Formula One World Champion.

Nelson Piquet Jr.: Formula One driver. He made his debut in 2008. His best result is a 2nd place in Hockenheim 2008. Otherwise he failed to impress.

Keke Rosberg: The 1982 Formula One World Champion.

Nico Rosberg: He made his debut in 2006. His best result is a 2nd in Singapore 2008. Williams often praise him and he looks like a bigger talent than Piquet, however his critics note that while he may look good against a teammate like Kazuki Nakajima, he was often outraced and outscored by Mark Webber when they were teammates. The jury is still out on him, I guess. Also his daddy is a F1 champion but is often considered to be one of the „lucky” WDCs, so Nico possibly can have the same talent.

Any similarities? I think so...

Satoru Nakajima: An F1 driver between 1987 and 1991. His best results are two 4th places (one in his debut season with Lotus).

Kazuki Nakajima: Made his F1 debut in 2007. His best result up to date is a 6th in Australia 2008.

The singles: Piquet and Sutil, plus Buemi

There are not many single drivers in F1. Actually, I only know of two:

Sunnyboy, Nelsinho

Nelson Piquet Jr.: Nelsinho is not as great of a driver as his dad, but he is as big of a playboy. He as changed his girfriends in fast succesion since he entered F1 before he met Gabriela Constantino. They seemed to be strongly in love and it looked like more serious than Nelsinho’s previous relationships, but at the end of last year they have broken up, so Nelsinho is now single again.

The bachelor

Adrian Sutil: Adrian says he is very picky and that’s true in case of girlfriends as well. As his expectations are high he is still waiting for the one.

Sebastien Buemi

There is one more guy in F1, rookie Sebastien Buemi. I don’t know anything about his private life yet.
